Meet Alden
Multi-instrumentalist, Alden Banta, enjoys a varied career playing woodwinds for commercial, jazz, and classical music, as well as film and television. On Broadway, Alden most recently played woodwinds in the orchestra of Tootsie the Musical, with other theater credits including Hello Dolly, King Kong, Finding Neverland the Musical, Motown the Musical, Chaplin, Catch Me If You Can, Sondheim on Sondheim, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Spamalot. For five jolly seasons, he also played in The Radio City Christmas Spectacular Orchestra. His versatility is displayed in film and television shows including the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Fosse/Verdon, My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, John Mulaney’s Sack Lunch Bunch, Documentary Now! ‘Co-OP’ and the soon to be released West Side Story directed by Steven Spielberg. In addition, he can be heard on recordings by Bruce Springsteen, Leslie Odum Jr., Brett Eldredge, Darlene Love and Kristin Chenoweth, to name a few. He has performed with Seal on Good Morning America and Kelly & Ryan and with Rufus Wainwright on The Tonight Show. He has also performed live on the Grammys, The Emmys, The Tonys, Billboard Music Awards and Jesus Christ Superstar for NBC.
As a freelance bassoonist and multiple woodwind player, Mr. Banta has performed with many New York City and regional premier ensembles, including the Orchestra of St. Luke's, The New Jersey Festival Orchestra, The Brooklyn Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, Opera New Jersey, and the New York Pops. Performances include, Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.
He was recently part of the Gil Evans Project at The Jazz Standard, which recorded newly discovered works by Miles Davis’ collaborator and composer. A member of the BMI Jazz Composers Orchestra, he often performs in modern jazz groups and big bands throughout the city.
